LAPSTART® STARTER STRIP US Patent #5,916,095 US Trademark #2,487,914
DESIGN FEATURES: Starter/bottom course for fiber-cement (Hardieplank™, etc) or other lap siding. Waterproof, no cracking, rusting, or rotting. Reduces installer time and the dust of field cutting, We recommend hand nailing as mechanical nail guns will split the PVC Provides needed permanent solid support to the vulnerable exposed first course of lap siding so it will resist breaking off when hit (lawn mowers, baseballs, shovels, etc.) Excellent installation aid Fiber-cement producers recommend a starter strip be positioned under the first plank to set the correct angle for subsequent laps, and some will not warranty their lap siding without usage of a starter strip. Without a starter strip the first 2-3 levels of siding will be missing the lift that comes from the siding being lapped and will cause the siding to not look symmetrical Fiber-cement producers don’t recommend ripping fiber-cement for starter, the strip will deteriorate unless primed and painted, more time and expense, also hard to handle during installation, and more field cutting creates more dust Consistent with James Hardie Best Practices Recommendations to minimize dust while cutting, the Tamlyn Lapstart® starter strip reduces the amount of cutting necessary on a job site If the starter strip is sliding into the crack between the slab and bottom plate, raise or lower the starter strip so this doesn’t occur. The resulting angle for the first plank course will remain acceptable Tamlyn 5/8” Lapstart® is specifically designed and engineered for James Hardie Artisan® Lap Siding SAMPLE SPECIFICATION: Tamlyn Lapstart® Starter Strip (No Substitutions) Hardieplank™ and Artisan® are owned by James Hardie International Finance B.V. |
